Castaway Shadows

Castaway shadows
from a shipwrecked past
swirl menacingly around
while trapped in my head
Old discarded remnants
of a life long since disowned
split off from my present reality
never quite forgotten – never wholly unknown
Apparitions of foreboding
hauntingly remind me of who I have been
while reflecting off the future
the silhouette of who I’ve become
intermingling with
castaway shadows
