Choices

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

– Viktor E. Frankl

A Caterpillar
by Carl Josehart

A caterpillar busily eyes a cocoon
silky silence
pregnant with perfection

watching

cautiously counting the days

waiting

waterfalls of color
bursting from its bosom
he pantomimes its passion
sitting on the sideline

watching…

still a caterpillar
busily eyeing a cocoon

peek-a-boo
by Carl Josehart

peek-a-boo identities
peer round the corner to look at me
images of might have been
almost was
and may still be
look round the corner and stir my curiosity

hide and seek
ring around the rosy
and kick the can
the game of life has no master plan

so at each crossroads a part of us chooses another path
and we part company with our doubting half
so many choices
the roads not taken multiply and grow beyond belief
and we play peek-a-boo with our other selves
on the tree of life each choice a single leaf
