“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.” (Kohelet 3:1-2)
Grief is a Garden
~ by Carl Josehart
Grief is a garden
where your memories are planted
like seeds in the soil of my soul
Grief is a garden
and time passes like seasons
seeds sown in sorrow and pain
sometimes bear bitter fruit
leaving the harvest bare of nourishing fruit
Grief is a garden
and memories of laughter
meals
holidays
phone calls
hugs
kisses
sometimes yield sweet fruit
feeding the hunger for your presence
Grief is a garden
memories are seeds
love is the gardener
coaxing new life from soil fertilized with your memory
a bountiful spring
brings hope
nourished from seeds you planted for me long ago
